Shri Satsang Bhawan
In 16 January 1961 Shri Banwari Lal Tewari ji organized a program in the honor of Pujya Maharaj Shri at his Tewari katra to establish a Satsang Bhawan with the association of Shri 108 Swami Satyanand ji Mharaj,Shri Shiv Prasad Misra, Shri Jivan Lal Bhaiya,Shri Radharaman Mehra, Shri Punam Chand Bajoria and Shri Ganesh Das Mimani. On the demand of public requirement Pujya Maharaj Shri registered a trust (Satsang Bhawan Trust) in month of June 1961 and purchased a piece of land at Darpa narayan Taigore Street, Bara Bazar in 1964 in the holy land of Kolkata. The Satsang Bhawan Trust started the construction work of a spacious building in 1964. After a hard labor of 6 years the building was completed. The Ashram was replete with all the comforts, attained popularity very soon and more so because it is being used for the service of the humanity and the only place for spiritual guidance & lectures by Pujya Maharaj Shri. Maharaj Ji’s affectionate behavior, his saintly nature and devotion attracted many followers to him. With his blessings many of their difficulties were removed and they achieved success in their work. Maharaj Ji had resolved to devote his life to the service of pilgrims. Hence during the Kumbh festival in Haridwar, Ujjain and Prayag he began to distribute food and provide free lodging to the pilgrims. Thus serving the humanity he departed for his heavenly abode.
This Ashram is a picture of beauty and elegance. On the main entrance there is a huge temple “Shri Panch Devayatan Temple”. It has three big lecture halls with Saint Shri Atulananda ji A.C. Hall. It has a Sankrit College also.The Krishnanand Sanskrit College is the one of the famous college of West Bengal for protection and propagation of the Sanskrit language. The Institution has been affiliated to Bengiya Sanskrit Shiksha Prishad and the programmed for the diploma of “Shastri & Acharya” was started in this academic year. Students are offered free education, free books, and free board and lodging. In addition to this they are also given monthly scholarships. The saints and the holy people are offered free meals in the Annanchetra owned by the Institutions.
The Satsang Bhawan has more than 35 rooms meant for free lodging of pilgrims. It also houses a charitable hospital which offers free medical aid to the poor and to the pilgrims. Frequently free eye camps are also organized in the hospital where the poor people are treated for many eye ailments. Free reading glasses are also distributed. Owing to these public welfare activities the Satsang Bhawan has earned an unprecedented popularity.
After the Maha Samadhi of Pujya Shri Nirvana Pithadhishwar Acharaya Mahamandleshwar Swami Shri Atulanand ji Maharaj in 1985 Pujya Maharaj Shri Nirvana Pithadhishwar Acharaya Mahamandleshwar Swami Shri Vishwadevanand ji Maharajcame on Acharya peeth and became the president of whole Govind Math related Institutions and Ashrams. He is very persevering, far sighted, dedicated Karma Yogi reverend Pujya Swami Shri Vishwadevanand ji Maharaj is the disciple of Late Pujya Maharaj Shri Nirvana Pithadhishwar Acharaya Mahamandleshwar Swami Shri Atulanand ji Maharaj. His guru held him in high esteem and considered him a befitting person to take over the management and the responsibility of running the various institutions setup by the late Pujya ji Maharaj Shri.
Pujya Swami Shri Vishwadevanand jiis the embodiment of affection and compassion. In him one can find a true paragon of virtue. He has been efficiently and successfully managing all the institutions.Pujya Maharaj Shri renovated an A.C. lecture hall and gave the name Saint Atulanand A.C.Hall in the honor of reverend heavenly Nirvana Pithadhishwar Acharaya Mahamandleshwar Swami Shri Atulanand ji Maharaj.
Satsang Bhawan is one of the holiest of the sacred places for the followers of Shri Sanatan Dharma since 1964. Satsang Bhawan is the only place where both times Morning or Evening delivers lectures on our Indian Religious Scriptures by man-making program. Satsang Bhawan has a large number of devotee’s. A visit to the Satsang Bhawan would inexorably take one out of the cobweb of mental blocks and would give one a feel of freedom, peace and progress. It shows the way of communal harmony and peaceful co-existence to the egocentric and strife torn world of today.
Satsang Bhawan organizes a camp in word famous Ganga Sagar Mela with the association of Dharmbhusan Shri Laxmi Kant ji Tewari ji (The king of Tewari Brothers Sweets).The Satsang Bhawan trust distributes food and provide free lodging to the pilgrims in the Ganga Sagar Mela on the occasion of Makar Sankrati. Satsang bhawan Trust is managing charitable hospitals also. From time to time organizing eye camps and blood donation camps. It organizes for the welfare and peace of the world holding Yagya and Katha. Run Ashrams and Bhandara for saints, students and destitute. There is big library where you can read holy books free of cost. It has more then 10 thousand books. This trust is doing work not only for propagation of Vaidic studies, Sanskrit language and Indian culture but Spiritual education centers and Yoga training also.
